Malawi
When the British sought other regions in which to grow tea they looked to Africa. Today many countries across Africa produce tea. The climate in many African nations allows for year round production. In southern Malawi, Satemwa Estate has been producing tea since the 1920's. Employing a large number of workers in the region, Satemwa is dedicated to corporate responsibility demonstrated through the school it maintains for children of workers, sport activities, conservation efforts and engagement with international programs like Fairtrade, UTZ, and the Rainforest Alliance. Teas are produced in the highlands of Malawi with some fields bordering the Michiru Mountain Conservation Area.
