Betsy Ross White Description:

Inspired by Betsy Ross and her creation of the American flag, Betsy Ross White is a lively combination of white tea with deep blue elderberries, red raspberry druplets, and stunningly blue cornflowers. The combination mirrors the colors of our flag with the elderberries and raspberries being native to America and blue cornflower, also known as Bachelor's Button, originating in Europe before migrating to the United States. Bachelor's Button is now common in every state but Alaska and is also a common addition to many teas. This tea features a raspberry aroma and tastes of raspberry with a sweet finish of elderberry.

Conventional Teas

Ingredients:

White Tea, Elderberries, Raspberry Druplets, Cornflowers, Flavor

Step 1:
Add boiling water to mug and allow the water to cool to 170°-185° or simply wait 2-5 minutes.
Step 2:
Steep 2 flat Tbsp or 3-4 grams of tea per 8 oz of water.
Step 3:
Steep for 1-3 minutes. It may be well worth experimenting with water closer to 170° as white teas often provide more character with cooler water. Try multiple steepings.

That's a big flavor! The scent is strong of blueberry. The color is unexpectedly dark for someone who reads "white tea" and expects a white colored tea... (but that ignorant person is me)... and the tea is gentle on the tummy. It's good from hot to room temp to cold. I read somewhere that white tea is good for melting off your excess fat, so I went hunting for it at the Dominion Tea stand when I was at the Leesburg Flower and Garden Festival. I have no idea what Betsy Ross would say about it, but out of the bag the tea colors match the colors of her flag so maybe that's the connection. The staff was pleasant and so is the tea. (I've been to their store in Purcellville, which is also nice.)
